But My Uncle is a Part Time Realtor. With things moving so quickly in the real estate market today, it might not be a good idea to use a friend or a family member that is working in real estate as a second job. It is always nice when we can support family and friends in their endeavors, just maybe not with our largest lifetime investment. Consider listing your home with an agent that only works part time in the industry. What happens when someone is interested in your home, can the other agent get in touch with your friend or family member? Some people are unable to take calls at their full time job, making it difficult for someone to see your home or make an offer on it.

If you are using a family member or friend to help you buy a home, this can also be problematic. In the current market where houses are selling very quickly, the home you may love could be sold before you have a chance to see it. Good deals don’t last very long in today’s market. It is not unusual for a home to sell within 24 hours of hitting the MLS.  In order to have the best possible chance of getting a home, a buyers agent has to be in touch with new listings as soon as they hit the market. Some properties are receiving multiple offers and a deal is made before a part time agent realizes their was a good deal available.
